Sweeping robots explained: autonomous sweeping for warehouses and industry
A sweeping robot sweeps on its own along fixed routes. It is especially interesting for recurring, dry soiling on large floors.
A sweeping robot is an autonomous sweeper that builds a map of its surroundings using sensors such as LiDAR and runs pre-set cleaning routes. It charges itself and can work at fixed times, even when the hall is quiet. Sweeping robots are mainly used in warehouses, logistics buildings and production halls.
How does a sweeping robot work?
The robot creates a digital map, plans routes, avoids obstacles and returns to its charging station. Brushes and extraction collect the dirt in a hopper.
- Map and route planning
- Obstacle detection
- Automatic charging and resuming
- Scheduling at fixed times
What is a sweeping robot suited for?
A sweeping robot works best on large, relatively open floors with recurring dry debris. Low models can reach under racking where ride-on machines cannot.
- Warehouses and distribution centres
- Production halls and workshops
- Zones under low racking
- Daily maintenance cleaning
Preparation and safety
Good set-up is important. We check passages and safety zones, position the charging station and configure routes and warnings. Wherever forklifts operate, visibility and warnings matter.
- Check passages and safety zones
- Location of the charging station
- Spoken or visual warnings
- Instruction for your team
Rule of thumb
A sweeping robot pays off when the same dry soiling keeps returning on large, relatively open floors and your team should save time. A demonstration on your own floor quickly shows whether it fits.
Limits of a sweeping robot
A sweeping robot sweeps dry debris and does not replace everything. Edges, corners and wet soiling sometimes need manual work or another machine. Large or heavy objects on the floor can disrupt the route.
- Dry debris only
- Edges and corners sometimes manual
- Obstacles on the route
- Have hazardous substances checked first
Frequently asked questions
Can a sweeping robot sweep under racking?
Low models can, depending on machine height and configuration. We assess this beforehand at your site.
Is a sweeping robot safe around forklifts?
With good preparation yes: safety zones, warnings and visibility are tailored to your site.
How long does a sweeping robot run per charge?
This depends on model and use. The DR SW90 VAC 4.0 runs up to about 3.5 hours with active dust extraction and returns to the charging station by itself.
Can I get a demo first?
Yes. We arrange a no-obligation demo at your site and advise honestly whether a robot fits.
