Practical guide 04

Robot configuration — first use

A good first configuration determines how predictably and safely a cleaning robot works later. Start with a clear zone and only expand once routes and reactions have been checked.

01

Prepare the environment

Remove temporary obstacles, check the floor and passages and define a fixed place for charging or automatic docking. Make sure staff know that the first test runs are taking place.

  • Measure narrow passages and turning zones
  • Mark fixed no-go zones
  • Check wireless coverage if required
02

Activate and check the basic settings

Carry out commissioning according to the supplier’s instructions. Check language, time, user rights, charge status, safety functions and available software version before a map is created.

  • Confirm emergency stop and safety sensors
  • Check date, time and user profile
  • Note the serial number and configuration version
03

Create and test the first route

Start in a defined, representative zone. Let the robot learn the environment or guide the route, then check turns, obstacle reactions, edge distance and coverage.

  • Start with one simple work zone
  • Observe crossings and dynamic obstacles
  • Check missed strips and overlap
04

Hand over to the team

Define who may start, adjust or stop routes. Train staff in daily checks, error messages, manual moving and safely freeing a blocked robot.

  • Appoint responsible operators
  • Discuss notifications and escalation
  • Plan an evaluation after the first week of operation
